The aim of the project is to secure a permanent future to the leper invalids and their offspring, through self-reliance and independence, and also for the families to take responsibility for their lives and the care of their leper parent/grandparents.
At the present time the dependants are living in the single room home of the invalid in the Leper Colony situated about 90 minutes drive north of Lusaka, Zambia.
The most despised in any society - LEPERS - now have hope for a future for themselves and their healthy children as The New Jerusalem 'Kachele Village' program expands.
July 2010
The first inter-school sports event took place on the sports fields at Kachele Village. 300 pupils from Nalufwe Government School [6km north] walked to participate in this fun day of competitive interaction with our 182 pupils, boosted with parent support.
The basket ball teams played hard and with good supporters singing/dancing on both sides. Natimwa won the two games.
The two football matches were equally well supported with happy rivalry in the spirit of true healthy competition. Natimwa scored 1-0 in the first game; with Nalufwe walking away in great jubilation at winning 4 - 3 in the second game.
